Kenmore Washing Machine Repair
Appliance:
Kenmore 80 Series Top-Loading Washing Machine
Problem:
Washing machine is overfilling
Solution:
The most common cause for a Kenmore washing machine overfilling or getting
water in the tub between uses is a bad water inlet valve. If the
part is bad it may not shut off completely allowing water to enter the machine.
The other cause could be a bad water-level switch. The water-level switch senses the water level in the tub, when the water reaches the desired level the switch is activated shutting off the water. If the switch is broken or the clear tube on the switch is obstructed then it will not work properly.

Problem:
When the washer gets into the spin cycle with about five
minutes left, the counter ends up going to F11.
Then the cycle stops completely.
Solution:
An
F11 code means the central control unit and the motor control unit (part #8182706) are not recognizing
each other.
Make sure your wiring harnesses are connected correctly and check the drive system for any worn or failed components. Then check the motor (part #8182793), the motor control unit, and the main control unit (part #8182689). If you have a tech sheet on that unit you can go through the fault code checking or you can put it into a diagnostic mode. The tech sheet on the machine is normally on the back of the control panel (part #8182642). Sometimes they tuck them in an envelope on the inside of the machine. It will give you a diagnostic failure chart and if for some reason your unit doesn't have it they do have a manual available that will walk you through the testing components.
It could be as simple as a loose wiring connection. Just make sure all the ribbons and harnesses are correct. You could have a crack in one of the boards, so it’s one of a couple different things and you have to put it into a diagnostic.
The washing machine is trying to get to the high speed spin but either the motor is loading up or the motor control unit is not functioning properly. The most common part that would be causing that condition would be the motor control unit.

Problem:
Makes a loud humming noise
Solution:
It could be a tub bearing (part #131525500) issue or a motor
bearing issue. Look at the back of the unit-- if the tub bearing has started to
fail you'll see a trickle of water where there has been water dripping down the
back of the drum. If it's spinning up to speed, normally the bearing is
probably not the problem.
If the noise is coming from the front of the washing machine it could be coming from the lock solenoid (part #131763202). If could also be coming from the door switch assembly.

Problem:
Getting an F21 Error Code
Solution:
The error code says there is
a drain problem. On most occasions it is due to a failed drain pump (part #W10130913) or drain
restriction.
Check the drain hose (part #W10114608) to make sure it is not clogged or kinked. Check the pump and the drain pump filter for foreign objects. If this does not correct the problem, then it is most likely a failed washer pump that needs to be replaced.
